When I woke up this morning, I didn’t realize that this day was any different from the other. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it is International Youth Day (IYD).
This year, the theme is “Change Our World” as it “expresses the level of impact that young people strive to achieve, but also reflects the notion of a global community that is a core principle of the United Nations.”
What I consider the best part of this theme is that it rightfully acknowledges the power that young people have to effect global change at their local levels. Technology has brought the world closer and more interactive as a global village, in which youth are at the forefront. Youth are not only often early adopters of new media; they are the tastemakers and masters of social media that connect people all over the world at a progressively advanced speed.
